Our team

Matt Locke

Director / Full-time

Matt leads on operations and processes for the company, as well as exec producing projects for clients including BBC, PBS, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Wellcome Trust. Before founding Storythings in 2011 he worked for over a decade in senior digital roles at Channel 4 and the BBC, including roles as Head of Innovation at BBC and Head of Multiplatform at Channel 4. He also started the Public Media Stack project, and will eventually one day finish his book about the history of attention metrics, which is actually way more interesting than it sounds. Matt also sits on the Board of Directors at Storythings.

Hugh Garry

Director / Full-time

Hugh is a strategist and executive producer who has been developing award winning online, video, and audio formats for over 25 years. He spent the first 15 years innovating in digital media at the BBC. Hugh writes the Storythings newsletter and Formats Unpacked. You really should subscribe. Hugh also sits on the Board of Directors at Storythings.

Anjali Ramachandran

Director / Full-time

Anjali has a background in digital media, strategy and innovation and was previously Head of Innovation at PHD Media, part of Omnicom Media Group. At Storythings she works on strategy and executive production for clients including PBS, Experian and Science Gallery London. She is passionate about diversity, equality and inclusion and is a co-founder of global women in tech network Ada’s List. She also writes the Other Valleys newsletter looking at creative and tech-related news from emerging markets and is a trustee of Chayn. She has worked across India, the US and UK. Anjali also sits on the Board of Directors at Storythings.

Darren Garrett

Creative Director / Part-time

Darren looks after creative things and helps with production matters at Storythings. Prior to working with Storythings he ran his own company for 13 years making games, animation and digital things for companies such as BBC, Channel 4, Universal, Paramount and Disney winning a BAFTA, BIMA’s & a Games for Change award along the way. He once wrote a script that was recorded by Julianne Moore, but it was only phrases such as ‘head west’. Still counts though.

Emily Bromfield

Head of Production / Part-time

Emily looks after all things production and operations at Storythings. Before joining the company in 2018, she worked at a number of art and literature organisations including Artangel and PEN International. Outside work she tries to keep her tomato plants alive, despite having no green fingers, and reads too much.

Emma Sarling

Operations and People Manager / Part-time

Emma looks after operations and the wellbeing of the team at Storythings.  With a background in music and TV including marketing and production for  BMG, Virgin and Disney, Emma has more recently been involved in operations with a focus on all things digital.  Outside of work, Emma loves to climb a mountain and is never happier than being upside down in a yoga headstand – both good for the soul!

Emma Greengrass

Operations Coordinator / Part-time

Emma supports the day-to-day operations at Storythings. Her background is in international development. Before joining the company in 2021, she worked at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) as Editorial Coordinator for a social science research programme. When not at work, she enjoys swing dancing, reading, karate and yoga.

Laura Sterian

Audience Researcher / Full-time

Laura is Storythings’ Audience Researcher. Originally from Bucharest, she has worked for 16+ years to grow local audiences in contexts such as arts management, cultural strategy and film production. She is currently studying Psychology and Cognitive Science. She believes in the power of storytelling to shape our worlds. And that curiosity actually saves the cat.

Grace Dobush

Editor / Fixed-term

Grace is a freelance journalist based in Berlin, where she’s written about business, tech and design for publications including Handelsblatt, Fortune, Wired and Quartz. She is the editor of the ADP ReThink Quarterly, a global publication about people and pay. Many years ago she co-founded an indie craft show and craft business conference back in Ohio, but now she only crafts for fun, not for profit.

Chloe Thrussell

Assistant Editor / Full-time

Chloe provides editorial support across Storythings, including the weekly newsletters and the ADP ReThink Quarterly. She has a background in film festivals and travel journalism and holds an MA in Visual Cultures. In her spare time, she loves to go bouldering and to kayak in the sea.

Graydon Gordian

Advisor / Fixed-term

Graydon Gordian is the Head of Marketing at Fractal Software, a venture capital studio launching and building the next generation of vertical SaaS startups. He spent several years working at the intersection of media and technology for organizations such as ESPN, Sesame Street and CNN before transitioning to a leadership role at the Atlanta-based agency Fortyfour (ACQ: Bounteous), where he served clients as varied as Fiserv, Coca-Cola, Adult Swim and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Bec Mortimer

Advisor / Fixed-term

Bec set up the first international office for Netflix and played a pivotal role driving growth in the UK and beyond, a job she binged for nearly a decade. She has been integral to the launch and subsequent success of several major film distributors in the UK and has held roles at Universal Pictures, Warner Bros, Momentum Pictures and Entertainment One. Bec’s leadership in senior marketing positions across the industry has resulted in highly impactful, buzzworthy and award-winning global campaigns.

Renee Edwards

Advisor / Fixed-term

Renee Edwards is the Director of Global Social at IBM. As part of IBM’s executive leadership team, Renee spends her days collaborating with some of the smartest minds in technology to drive business growth and innovation through social and digital marketing. Her passion for leadership and creativity has led her to develop some of the most engaged, global social communities in the industry. It has also helped create a platform used to advocate for equity in the workspace and elevate the diverse perspectives of those around her.

Prior to joining IBM, Renee served as Director and Head of Social Media at ADP. She also held additional leadership roles at Samsung Electronics America and Intel Corporation.
