B Corp

Why be a B Corp certified business?

  • B stands for “benefit”— for people and the planet, not just shareholders.
  • We have joined a growing movement of purposeful businesses who meet verified standards for social and environmental business practices.
  • Being a certified B Corp has helped crystallise our values and ethics as a company – from who we work with and how we work to our continuing commitment to giving back to our local communities.

How we became a certified B Corp

  • B Corp certification involved a deep dive into our company practice in five main areas: governance, workers, customers, community, and environment.
  • We were certified in January 2024 with a score of 98.
  • Being a certified B Corp is a process of continuous improvement helping us to raise our positive impact as we evolve and requiring companies to recertify after three years.

Community

Community remains at the heart of our commitment to put people and the planet alongside profit.

  • Our staff team are entitled to take up to 26 paid hours of volunteering time per year in their local communities – members of our team are supporting a range of their local organisations including: Wasafiri, Stillness Infant School, Saltdean Primary School, Little Green Pig, and The Circular Space.
  • We consult our staff team annually on where they would like Storythings to give sponsorship and/or charitable donations and endeavour to split available funds across a variety of the causes put forward by our team.
  • Our former mentees have developed their own compelling formats through our tailored support.

Environment and sustainability

  • We are a fully remote/hybrid team with access to a co-working space in Brighton (also a B Corp).
  • We encourage sustainable travel via public transport. We keep travel to a minimum using trains rather than planes wherever possible. We offset our carbon emissions for flights and accommodation.
  • We operate an Ethical Decision Making Framework to evaluate new clients and potential projects.
  • We are a networked team and support our digital and virtual work with a number of online tools and platforms that are risk-assessed for due diligence.
  • We have a local suppliers preference policy and assess our suppliers on their ethical and environmental criteria.

Our principles

Purpose Statement:

Storythings exists because the gap between what organisations say and what people actually need to hear has real consequences. We work with institutions whose decisions shape lives — in education, finance, philanthropy, and beyond — to tell stories that inform, respect, and empower their audiences. Our model is built on sustained partnership rather than one-off campaigns, because we know that communication which genuinely humanises takes time, trust, and commitment to get right.

  • We are a strategy and content production company and as such we do not undertake political lobbying activities as part of our mission.
  • We have signed B Lab UK’s campaign for a Better Business Act and joined the coalition.
  • We are serious about applying JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) principles across policies and practices in our operations, our work with clients and community. We represent diverse people in our projects and believe that by creating an honest, bias-free and open work environment for all of our employees and freelance talent, we’ll build happier, stronger and more productive teams.
  • We are an accredited Living Wage Employer choosing to pay the real Living Wage (higher than the National Living Wage) because we believe everyone needs a decent standard of living to thrive.
