B Corp

Why are we proud to be a B Corp certified business?

  • B Corps are committed to putting people and the planet alongside making a profit – these values are at the heart of what we do at Storythings, and always have been.
  • We have joined a growing movement of purposeful businesses who meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact.
  • Being a certified B Corp has helped crystallise our values and ethics as a company – from who we work with and how we work to our continuing commitment to giving back to the community through sponsorship and with our pro bono mentoring programme: First Draft.

Our B Corp Certification…how we got here

  • B Corp certification involved a deep dive into our company practice in five main areas: governance, workers, customers, community, and environment.
  • We were certified in January 2024 with a score of 98.
  • Being a certified B Corp involves a process of continuous improvement helping us to raise our positive impact as we evolve. In 2025, we will produce an annual impact report to report on our progress, and in 2027 we will need to recertify as a B Corp.

Giving back to our community…

At Storythings we pride ourselves in sharing our expertise and championing the work of others, including:

  • Sponsoring the Lighthouse Young Creatives programme – a professional development scheme for young people in Brighton and Hove who aspire to work in the creative industries but face exclusion through lack of access and barriers to participation.
  • Supporting small organisations, networks and collectives who work with under-represented communities through First Draft, our pro bono consultancy offer. In 2024, we helped Well Nice Music and Civic Science Media CIC to develop their own compelling formats through our audience mapping and Formats Unpacked workshops.
  • Encouraging our team to involve themselves in up to 26 paid hours of volunteering time per year in their local communities, for a charity or cause that they would like to support.

Environment and sustainability

  • We operate an Ethical Decision Making Framework when it comes to evaluating new clients and potential projects.
  • We are a networked team and support our digital and virtual work with a number of online tools and platforms that are risk-assessed for due diligence.
  • We operate an office in central Brighton’s Lighthouse Arts building which utilises renewable energy with general waste zero to landfill.
  • We encourage sustainable travel via public transport. We keep travel to a minimum using trains rather than planes wherever possible. We offset our carbon emissions for flights and accommodation.
  • We have a local suppliers preference policy and assess our suppliers on their ethical and environmental criteria.
